A comic book store will open in its new premises

Local residents will have the opportunity to meet Hollywood actor Sam Jones, as Pahrump’s Hypno Comics holds a grand opening on Saturday, March 27 at its new location at 720 East Street starting at 10 a.m.
Although Jones has starred in dozens of movies and TV shows over the decades, most moviegoers know him from his starring role as the main character in the 1980 film “Flash Gordon”.
Hypno Comics owner George Chase has said Jones will be signing autographs to help kick off the grand opening.
“He will be here from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, but we will open our doors for the opening at 10:00 am,” he said. “People can come in and meet Mr. Jones, but there is a charge if you bring a personal item for him to dedicate.” If you don’t have a personal item, he will have items for sale at his table and dedicate them for free. He heard about us when we had our store in Ventura, CA.
Chase also spoke about his new location relative to his old store along Frontage Road in Pahrump.
“People can expect our biggest store ever here in Pahrump,” he said. “We’ll have the 5280 Mexican food truck here, as well as a $ 1 comic book parking lot. We’ll also be giving away free comics for the first 50 people and free Pokemon posters for the first 50 people. It will just be a fun day. What excites me the most is that we added an antique and an Americana corner, so if this is a collector’s item, we do. We also buy collectibles, so we’ll take a look at it, and if we like it, we’ll throw some cash at you.
When it comes to the comics, Chase noted that the posts aren’t just for children’s entertainment.
“The comic book fan age range is around 18 to 50, but we have young readers and this is one of my favorite things because it’s a good escape and also a good transition. towards novels, and that’s also what prompted me to read, “he said. “As far as my favorite comics go, I grew up with Daredevil, and I’m a Marvel guy too but Daredevil is my all-time favorite. We have so much more than comics. from a collector’s item, we do it all, including sports cards, games, coins, video games, and action figures.
Throughout his commercial career in the comic book industry, Chase and his wife Destiny have won several prestigious accolades over the years, including the Eisner Prize, named after famous American cartoonist Will Eisner.
“The Eisner Awards are basically the Oscars of the comic book industry,” he said. “We have been fortunate to be nominated three times. We haven’t won one yet, but it’s really an honor to be nominated because it means we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing and I’m very proud of that. Prior to moving here, we were also voted 3rd best comic book store in the country, by Travel and Leisure Magazine.
On a final note, Chase explained exactly how he and his family got to Pahrump and how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the business.
“When we started in Ventura, we suffered from one of the biggest wildfires in California called the Thomas Blaze,” he recalls. “It impacted our house and our business in the fourth quarter of the season and we lost pretty much everything. My cousin lived here and said he had a house for us so we came here. COVID-19 has obviously impacted everyone. It hit us right when we moved into our first location on Frontage Road so we pulled over and went in line only. Eventually this place became available and the time had come and we fell in love with the place. I really like this place.
