Creepshow Franchise
Creepshow was inspired by EC Comics, a publisher of horror comics in the 1940s and 50s, notably the Tales from the Crypt series. Romero and King were fond of the publisher and joined forces to create Creepshow, their storytelling anthology. And, to keep the comic book feel, they employed longtime SFX guru Tom Savani to transpose it into the film.
The announcement of the Creepshow comic is great news for fans of the franchise. Fans love the campy, spooky feel of this franchise, and a comic book seems like the next logical step in its continuation.
Greg Nicotero had this to say about the comic:
Growing up as a fan of famous horror and monster comics, I’ll never forget the thrill of seeing a new issue hit the stands. Flip through the pages with the anticipation of plunging into a dark, twisted and outrageous world filled with ghouls, zombies and classic come-uppence. I’m so proud to see Creepshow find its rightful place on the comic book shelves everywhere!”
