Acclaimed Comic Book Writer Max Dunbar Joins Heroscape Reboot

The Heroscape Reboot Has Friends In High Places

The Heroscape reboot is making its way through the Haslab crowdfunding platform right now. Sitting at just over 25% funding after a week of life, full success seems within reach.

This offer includes 71 miniatures, from the minds of several great designers. One of these creators is none other than Max Dunbar – whose work can be seen in DC Comics, Dungeons & Dragons, Reaper Miniatures, Heroquest, and more. Now it has a new entry in that portfolio: Heroscape.

Avalon Hill’s faith in Dunbar’s skills is evident. He wasn’t assigned every character in the set, but he did work on a certain dragon tamer. “Sonlen” is a fan favorite from the old Heroscape: Swarm of the Marro master set.

Although Hasbro nor Avalon Hill provided gameplay details for the reboot, we do know that it will be backwards compatible with the original Heroscape products. The exact degrees of this compatibility are not yet known. Will it be a total overhaul, or just new units with a new mechanic or two? On the Avalon Hill Discord server, the designers said we’ll see updates on this in the coming days/weeks.

Heroscape is a lightweight wargame designed for casual audiences. As it stands, however, the lack of new resources for players and the $250 price tag make this game a tough sell. With the new resources in place, crowdfunding campaign will likely see a boost in popularity. But only time will tell if it will be enough to cross the finish line.
