B&D Comic Shop set to open on Brambleton Avenue
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – B&D Comics has been part of the Roanoke community for decades.
“I’ve seen kids come in, I’ve seen them grow up, get married, and bring their own kids,” said store owner Terry Baucom.
The Comic Shop has spent the past 30 years on Elm Avenue and the previous 10 on Williamson Road.
Owner Terry Baucom knew he would have to relocate for the Wasena Bridge Replacement Project, which is expected to begin construction in the coming months.
“We negotiated with the city and they bought the building to do what they want with it. I knew about two and a half years ago that this was going to happen.
While it’s hard to leave a building filled with so many memories, on Tuesday B&D Comics will open its doors at 2937 Brambleton Avenue. With the help of community volunteers, almost everything was moved to the new location.
“I would have preferred to stay here but it just gives me a new reason to have a new adventure. And I’m really excited and looking forward to the next chapter. A new chapter that will continue to rely on the support of community members of all ages.
“One of the main purposes of a comic book store is to be a community outlet for like-minded people. It’s about talking to people, getting to know them, it’s all about service to customers, face to face, and to treat people like friends rather than someone you just want money from.
As someone who got into comics when she was young, Baucom said there wasn’t a lot of money in the comics industry, but there was a lot of talent. ‘love. The boutique will celebrate its 40th anniversary in July and is looking forward to what the next 40 years have in store for us.
The new B&D Comic Shop location will be fully operational starting Tuesday.
