Explosive editor BOOM! Studios have announced a new Dune comic, Dune: The Waters of Kanlyby writers Brian Herbert and Kevin J.Anderson with the art of Francesco Mortarino. Raul Angulo will color the cartoon, with letters from Ed Ducsire. The comic will be produced with Herbert Properties LLC and Abrams ComicArts and will expand the mythology of the popular sci-fi franchise that asks the question, “what if star wars was as boring as the Lord of the Rings?”
The synopsis reads as follows:
Dive deeper into the world of Dune with this story set during the events of Frank Herbert’s classic! In the aftermath of the Battle of Arrakeen, the legendary warlord of House Atreides, Gurney Halleck, takes refuge with spice smugglers, swearing revenge on the Harkonnens at all costs.
Herbert and Anderson, who take their songwriting partnership so seriously they speak in unison, released the following statement about Dune: The Waters of Kanly.
In the DUNE novel, Gurney Halleck secretly works among the smugglers for two years, building up his hatred towards the Harkonnens. We loved the opportunity to explore those lost years and tell this story of his plan to avenge what they did to the noble house Atreides.
BOOM! Senior Writer Dafna Pleban also offered a comment in the press release, and normally we wouldn’t print it because it’s official Bleeding Cool policy that editors don’t matter, that’s why they don’t will not hire one to proofread our articles. But it’s also Bleeding Cool’s official policy that all articles must be at least 300 words, which poses a dilemma for us. Finally, we decided to print it:
Brian and Kevin did it again with an in-depth look at one of the most intriguing characters in the Dune universe, Gurney Halleck, and the incredible, never-before-seen journey he’s taken to seek justice for the house to which he dedicated his life. .
Dune: The Waters of Kanly #1 will hit stores in May.
