Eternus: 10 things we know about the next comic book series

At the end of the year, Venom: let there be carnage Director Andy Serkis has announced a partnership with multidisciplinary artist Andrew Levitas to launch a new comic book inspired by Greek mythology titled Eternus. The story, which will be published in 2022, presents Heracles after the death of Zeus and the mystery of his murder.

Although this is a short run, with only 7 numbers, Eternus features a large group of talented writers and artists working together to ensure its quality. Among others, Andy Serkis is known for his roles in many films, such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Lord of the Rings, and Star wars. Andrew Levitas has produced several films, including Georgetown, the Career, and Last moment of clarity.

Although the original idea for Eternus came from Serkis and Levitas, the comic will feature a screenplay co-written by Don Handfield and Anastazja K. Davis, two screenwriters with long careers in the film industry.

Handfield’s previous work includes scripts for Touchback and Slingshot, but he also produced films like Kill the messenger and The founder and created the television series Knight’s fall. Davis, who previously worked with Handfield, specializes in thrillers and has written for films such as Sultana, Women’s Fight Club and Disconnected.

As any fan knows, it takes a village to create a comic book. Besides the creators and writers of Eternus, it is important to credit the four artists behind his images. Karl Moline serves as a designer, while Andy Owens works as an inker, on top of that Dave Lanphear does letters and Rob Prior will provide the covers.

Each of these artists has a prolific career in the comic book industry. As an example of the quality fans can expect from their work, Karl Moline has worked in the Buffy the vampire slayer comics, and Rob Prior worked on Terminator and Game of thrones books.

Although the story was announced in late September, Eternus won’t be released until 2022. Unfortunately, there is no information yet on the month of its debut, but the creators have announced that the story will be told in seven issues, so it will take just over half of the year.

Since it has yet to be released, it’s impossible to know anything about any other work between Serkis and Levitas, but there’s a good chance that if Eternus is successful it will allow them to continue working together in the comic book industry.


6 The plot draws its main inspiration from Greek mythology

Serkis explained in an interview that “Eternus is an expression of our [his and Levita’s] fascination with fundamental mythology and deeply rooted storytelling,And confided that all of the characters in this story are based on the Greek gods everyone already knows.

This is not the first time Andrew Levitas has worked with Greek mythology. The director has used Greece in his previous work. In fact, one of the reasons he made his last movie Minamata in Athens was the deep interest he always had in Hellenic culture and aesthetics.


5 It tells the story of a crushed Heracles after the death of Zeus


While Eternus is inspired by Greek mythology for its characters and its plots, it does not present the invincible gods which appear in most of the representations. In fact, it’s a darker story that follows the life of Heracles after the death of his father Zeus.

Thirty years after the murder, Heracles is an alcoholic who is forced out of his own depression when the temple of Athena is broken into. As the thief only stole an old relic of Zeus, all the gods are convinced that it was he who killed him. It is Heracles’ job to help solve this mystery.


4 It is not connected to the home planet of Marvel’s Eternals


Also known as Eyung, Eternus is a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy of the Marvel Universe that once housed a superior race known as the Eternals. They were conquerors who held other races of Eyung as slaves.

Since the latest MCU movie features this run, fans may be tempted to believe Eternus has something to do with it, but it’s not true. This upcoming story is an brainchild of Serkis and Levitas which will hopefully be expanded in the years to come.




3 It is part of a group of new books produced by Scout Comics

Scout Comics & Entertainment is a Fort Myers, Florida-based comic book publisher that was founded in 2015 by Brendan Deenen. The main objective of this company is to develop and publish comic books owned by creators, always making sure to attract new talent to the comic book industry.

outraged Eternus, Scout Comics featured seven exclusive stories to come to the New York comic from 2021. Among the titles are Count Draco Knuckleduster, Action Tank, Unikorn, Stake, White Ash, Ranger Stranger, and Third wave. All of these are available on the Scout Comic website.

Unicorn

Eternus is one of the first comic books ever to be funded by Thunder Comics, a new comic book fund currently seeking new talent in the comic book world. This company was founded in early 2021 by writer and producer Don Handfield, Tim Zarajos and Chris LeMole of Armory Films, and Ashley Coleman and Rafael Chavez of Chavez Brothers.

For now, the only other work in the Thunder Comics catalog is Unicorn, also produced by Scout Comics. However, there are many plans for the future for this business and their website invites users to subscribe so that they are the first to find out.


1 A preview is already available for purchase


Although Eternus # 1 won’t be released until 2022, Serkis and Levitas fans can rest assured as there is a limited edition preview of the story that was created especially for New York Comic Con which is available for purchase on the Scout Comics website.

There are also copies of the Eternus preview signed by Andy Serkis for sale. It can be a metal cover edition or a CGC edition. The price may vary depending on the edition.
