At the end of the year, Venom: let there be carnage Director Andy Serkis has announced a partnership with multidisciplinary artist Andrew Levitas to launch a new comic book inspired by Greek mythology titled Eternus. The story, which will be published in 2022, presents Heracles after the death of Zeus and the mystery of his murder.
Although this is a short run, with only 7 numbers, Eternus features a large group of talented writers and artists working together to ensure its quality. Since its creators have already announced that this is just the beginning, comic book fans around the world are very excited to see what this new universe co-created by Serkis and Levitas has in store.
ten It was co-created by Andy Serkis and Andrew Levitas
Among others, Andy Serkis is known for his roles in many films, such as Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Lord of the Rings, and Star wars. Andrew Levitas has produced several films, including Georgetown, the Career, and Last moment of clarity.
Considering Andy Serkis ‘career, it’s obvious that he already knows a bit about the comic book world, but Andy Levitas’ work is closer to art cinema. Either way, he has a lot of experience in many types of art, so fans can be sure he will do a good job for this book.
9 It contains a script by Don Handfield and Anastazja K. Davis
Although the original idea for Eternus came from Serkis and Levitas, the comic will feature a screenplay co-written by Don Handfield and Anastazja K. Davis, two screenwriters with long careers in the film industry.
Handfield’s previous work includes scripts for Touchback and Slingshot, but he also produced films like Kill the messenger and The founder and created the television series Knight’s fall. Davis, who previously worked with Handfield, specializes in thrillers and has written for films such as Sultana, Women’s Fight Club and Disconnected.
8 Karl Moline, Andy Owens, Dave Lanphear and Rob Prior to collaborate on art
As any fan knows, it takes a village to create a comic book. Besides the creators and writers of Eternus, it is important to credit the four artists behind his images. Karl Moline serves as a designer, while Andy Owens works as an inker, on top of that Dave Lanphear does letters and Rob Prior will provide the covers.
Each of these artists has a prolific career in the comic book industry. As an example of the quality fans can expect from their work, Karl Moline has worked in the Buffy the vampire slayer comics, and Rob Prior worked on Terminator and Game of thrones books.
seven Composed of seven numbers, it will be released in 2022
Although the story was announced in late September, Eternus won’t be released until 2022. Unfortunately, there is no information yet on the month of its debut, but the creators have announced that the story will be told in seven issues, so it will take just over half of the year.
Since it has yet to be released, it’s impossible to know anything about any other work between Serkis and Levitas, but there’s a good chance that if Eternus is successful it will allow them to continue working together in the comic book industry.
6 The plot draws its main inspiration from Greek mythology
Serkis explained in an interview that “Eternus is an expression of our [his and Levita’s] fascination with fundamental mythology and deeply rooted storytelling,And confided that all of the characters in this story are based on the Greek gods everyone already knows.
This is not the first time Andrew Levitas has worked with Greek mythology. The director has used Greece in his previous work. In fact, one of the reasons he made his last movie Minamata in Athens was the deep interest he always had in Hellenic culture and aesthetics.
5 It tells the story of a crushed Heracles after the death of Zeus
While Eternus is inspired by Greek mythology for its characters and its plots, it does not present the invincible gods which appear in most of the representations. In fact, it’s a darker story that follows the life of Heracles after the death of his father Zeus.
Thirty years after the murder, Heracles is an alcoholic who is forced out of his own depression when the temple of Athena is broken into. As the thief only stole an old relic of Zeus, all the gods are convinced that it was he who killed him. It is Heracles’ job to help solve this mystery.
4 It is not connected to the home planet of Marvel’s Eternals
Also known as Eyung, Eternus is a planet in the Andromeda Galaxy of the Marvel Universe that once housed a superior race known as the Eternals. They were conquerors who held other races of Eyung as slaves.
Since the latest MCU movie features this run, fans may be tempted to believe Eternus has something to do with it, but it’s not true. This upcoming story is an brainchild of Serkis and Levitas which will hopefully be expanded in the years to come.
3 It is part of a group of new books produced by Scout Comics
