‘Goodbye Everyone’ Iconic Dundee comic shop to close as pandemic losses bite

A popular comic book store in Dundee has been forced to close due to pandemic losses.

Big Dog Books in the city center will close for the last time at the end of this month.

In a second step, the company confirmed that it was also forced to close its Perth store.

Announcing the news on Facebook, owner Stuart Kane said he had done his best to keep his business going.

He wrote: “It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Big Dog Books.

“We have done our best to continue, but the post-pandemic world has just made it impossible to continue.

“Continued covid disruptions, shipping delays, skyrocketing costs, physical products moving to digital platforms, companies that once supported local game stores moving to direct sales, rising cost of living and other political issues…the list is long…”



Big Dog Books was well known as a “safe space” where people could visit to read, play board games, and have coffee and chat.

It now officially closes on Friday, May 27.

Stuart, 39, added: ‘We know there are a lot of people who see Big Dogs as their safe space.

“To you and the other loyal customers who have supported us over the years, we say sorry that we are no longer here, but we will not leave you behind and we will try to find new ways to keep our people together.

“Goodbye everyone.”
