COVRPRICE.COM uses live sales analytics to identify and compile the market’s most robust price guide, highlighting the hottest trending comics each week. No opinion. Just data. Each week they feature a newly updated list of TOP 10 COMICS. These trends are driven by rumors, fan-favorite covers, story-based content, and content-related news.
This week’s TOP 10 could be summed up in two words, MOON KNIGHT. The recent Disney+ trailer set the Moon Knight books on fire. While half of this list is dedicated to Marc Spector’s alter ego, there were several other big trends this week, including Donny Cate’s HULK #3, which features a potential new villain. The Corinthian, which first appeared in Sandman #10, helped a Sandman book appear on the list for the first time. Strange Academy’s new villain, GASLAMP, is heating up in aftermarket sales. And finally, a gorgeous new variant of Catwoman that’s hitting triple figures long before it even hit comic books shelves. Let’s go inside:
#ten. MOON KNIGHT #3 Newsstand | WONDER | 1981 | This issue features the first appearance of MIDNIGHT MAN. Despite not appearing in the recent MOON KNIGHT trailer, the character has seen a spike in sales recently. This is likely due to the tragic death of French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who plays the character in the Disney+ series. This week there was a high sale of $640 for a CGC 9.8, with a gross FMV of $51.
#9. CATWOMAN #39 SOZOMAÏKA (1:25) | CC | 2022 | It’s amazing what many ratio incentive variants do right off the bat on release day. That pre-release buzz really seems to be helping these new hit releases hit big numbers right away. Such was the case for this 1:25 Sozomakika with a current gross FMV of $127.
#8. THE SAND MAN #10 | CC | 1989 | It was recently announced that actor Boyd Holbrook will play the role of The Corinthian in the Netflix series SANDMAN. Additionally, it was also recently announced that James Tynion is writing a new comic book series, NIGHTMARE COUNTRY, which will be based on the Sandman universe and centered on The Corinthian. These two factors helped him achieve a high sale of $678 for a CGC 9.8 and a current gross FMV of $82.
#seven. MOON KNIGHT #188 | WONDER | 2017 | While the MOON KNIGHT trailer garnered positive reactions, many felt disappointed with the reveal of Ethan Hawke playing Arthur Harrow, a relatively obscure Moon Knight villain. So much so that fans are theorizing that Harrow is either a Sun King pawn, or possibly the Sun King in disguise. Either way, hopes for the Sun King to play a big role made their first appearance in this show trend in a big way, landing on this week’s list with a high sale of $550 for a CGC. 9.8 and a current gross FMV of $46. This book could get even higher if this theory comes to fruition.
#6. HULK #3 TRADD MOORE (1:25) | WONDER | 2022 | After a big heat behind the God of Hammers, Donny Cates hit again with HULK this week! So to catch people up with this series, Hulk has been split into three personalities. As described in the book’s summary, “Hulk’s body has been transformed into a spaceship, Banner’s psyche pilots him from within Hulk’s mind, and Hulk’s psyche fuels the spaceship with his wrath. ” Traveling through different dimensions, we briefly encounter a darker, more sinister threat that fans refer to as “Black Hulk” and “Knull Hulk.” Despite an appearance and dialogue, it’s unclear if this unnamed character is even a Hulk or what threat level he will be. That said, the high expectations around this new character pushed this 1:25 variant from Tradd Moore to its current gross FMV of $50.
#5. MOON KNIGHT #1 | WONDER | 1980 | Over the past few years, the long-awaited MOON KNIGHT Disney+ series has continually increased this first issue of its ongoing series to higher and higher market value. With the first official trailer finally released, this book’s price hike and sales surge should come as no surprise this week. It hit a high sale of $1,150 for a CGC 9.8, with raw copies currently at an FMV of $105.
#4. STRANGE ACADEMY #15 HUMBERTO RAMOS | WONDER | 2022 | Gaslamp was first introduced via a cameo in Strange Academy #13, with a first full appearance in issue #14. Much debate online has surfaced over who should take the “first appearance” designation. As the market continues to iron out this issue, this issue is officially receiving the honor of a first cover appearance. And boy, did it sell well, with raw copies currently at an FMV of $23.
#3. MOON KNIGHT #7 RAHZZAH VARIANT | WONDER | 2022 | wow. How amazing is this cover of Rahzzah? It was easily our favorite cover of the week. Heck, since it’s only January, we can even call it our favorite cover of the year. It’s perfect and well timed with the recent heat of Moon Knight. However, its high demand made it difficult to find in stores as copies were quickly snatched up. Fans had to turn to online sales, which helped gross sales move a current FMV of $10.
#2. HULK #3 RYAN OTTLEY | WONDER | 2022 | As noted, the potential new Hulk adversary introduced last week set that standard coverage on the secondary market fire with raw copies selling for $19 FMV. Who is this new “Black Hulk” and what does it mean for our Hulk? Mr. Cates does a fantastic job of keeping us coming back for those answers.
#1. MOON KNIGHT #2 | WONDER | 1985 | As noted, the biggest trend in the MOON KNIGHT Disney+ trailer was the confirmation of Ethan Hawke as Moon Knight’s obscure villain, Dr. Arthur Harrow. His first and only appearance was in this issue. It went from a dollar-priced pound to a high of $158 for NM crude with an overall FMV of $64. Is Dr Harrow the big bad in Moon Knight? Whatever that answer, it’s clear that the MOON KNIGHT series will take us on a journey full of chaos.
