Last week’s top 10 comics rising in value include Thor, Thor and more

The highly anticipated THOR LOVE AND THUNDER trailer debuted last week, and fans are clamoring for the mighty new Thor! Jane Foster dominates sales this week, leaving very little room for other contenders. However, Catwoman wields her claws to land a top spot on our list, bumping into SECRET HISTORY OF THE WAR ON WEED. How high did they go? Find out as we reveal this week’s Top 10!

Want to know which comics are trending each week and why? COVRPRICE.COM uses live sales analytics to identify and compile the market’s most robust price guide, highlighting the hottest trending comics each week. No opinion. Just data. Each week they feature a newly updated list of TOP 10 COMICS. These trends are driven by rumors, fan-favorite covers, story-based content, and content-related news.

#ten: THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE WEED WAR #1 – BORED APE YACHT CLUB – BAYC (LIMITED TO 500) | PICTURE | 2022 | What makes a book valuable? An intriguing story? Limited-release coverage? BAYC’s first cover? The first NFT to serve as a cover? A little controversy? THE SECRET HISTORY OF WAR ON WEED #1 hits all of these milestones. And it just so happens that the trend is currently at an unranked high of $295. Brian Posehn, Gerry Duggan and Scott Koblish have set up an interesting narrative about Scotch McTiernan, the “greatest tool in the armed forces”, getting high for the first time. If it sounds like a simple concept, it is, which makes for perfect storytelling. Additionally, Image said a portion of the proceeds from this book are donated to organizations dedicated to helping victims of America’s unethical war on drugs. Adding to the timeliness of this book is the recent backlash over this limited release cover. Comic book fans were quick to voice their frustrations and concerns over the use of this cover on social media. If you want to read more in-depth coverage of the controversy behind this cover, check out ComicBook.com’s coverage of it. With all of that mentioned, controversy tends to bring infamy to books like this and, in turn, make them highly sought after and expensive (e.g., Variant Spider-Woman #1 by Milo Manara). For market comparison, BAYC has also partnered with Rolling Stone for a limited edition zine of 2500 copies. It originally cost $50 and now sells for $700+ gross and up to $2,000 in a 9.8.

#9: CATWOMAN #42 – SOZOMAÏKA (1:25) | CC | 2022 | When it comes to Catwoman, Sozomaika is one of the most sought after cover artists. Sozomaika WIFE PUSSY 39 (1:25) sits at a FMV of $77.97. His subsequent 1:25 covers were also extremely popular (#40, #41). It’s no surprise that last week’s release achieved the same level of notoriety with a current FMV of $58 unranked. If you’re a Catwoman fan, the Sozomiaka covers are books you’ll want to collect!

#8: HAWKEYE VS. DEAD POOL #0 | WONDER | 2014 | The fandom is calling for all books featuring Jane Foster’s Thor! The character reaches new heights of popularity as the hunt for Jane Foster is on. It seems almost every book featuring the mighty Thor has received a bump in the market. This one is particularly unique, as it doesn’t feature Jane Foster or her Thor appearance. Instead, this is the first appearance of Jane Foster’s Thor and Spider-Gwen costumes. They’re carried by trick-or-treaters as we get a POV of Hawkeye aiming through a crowd. While not character appearances, HAWKEYE VS DEADPOOL #0 still reached new heights due to “costume debut appearances” carrying some weight in the collector community. We trailed this book at a high sale of $229 for a CGC 9.8, with a current gross FMV of $42.

#7: THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #2 | WONDER | 2012 | Many fans have been waiting for a good look at Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming THOR LOVE AND THUNDER. However, the trailer did not contain any visual imagery of the epic villain. Nonetheless, the trailer reminded the fandom that Gorr the Butcher God is about to ravage Thor’s life. His first appearance, and the first appearance of the Necrosword, took a spot in the top 10 of the leaderboards. This book will likely reach new heights when we finally see Christian Bale’s Gorr in future Thor trailers. We tracked a high sale of $529 for a CGC 9.8, with unrated copies at a current FMV of $153.

#6: THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #25 | WONDER | 2014 | Jane Foster makes her first appearance as the god of thunder, Thor, in the latest issue of Jason Aaron’s run. Marvel had planned to introduce Jane Foster as Thor, and this book was meant to create a direct line in that new story. Of the 245 books rated on the CGC Census, only 115 are rated at 9.8. We tracked a high sale of $255 for a CGC 9.8, with unrated copies at a current FMV of $45.

#5: THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #3 | WONDER | 2012 | While no key appearances occur in this book, there is one key scene that was pulled straight from the comics to grace the big screen. The scene referenced is the death of Falligar the Behemoth, a galactic frontier god whom Thor had known personally. This was the beginning of Thor becoming aware of Gorr’s rampage in the comics. This scene will certainly be a turning point in the film. Also, many eBay listings list this book as Gorr’s second appearance, which is incorrect (it’s GOD OF THUNDER #4). We tracked a high sale of $125 for a CGC 9.8, with unranked copies at a current FMV of $23.

#4: Thor #8 | WONDER | 2015 | It is a clear contender for the top ten list. This is the first time that Jane Foster is revealed to be the new Thor, and it is also revealed that she is sick and has breast cancer. It was recently revealed that Jane Foster will follow the same storyline from 2015. We tracked a high sale of $145 for a CGC 9.8, with unrated copies at a current FMV of $31.

#3: THOR 2 | WONDER | 2014 | Didn’t we say Jane Foster topped the top ten list? Here we have Jane Foster’s first full appearance as Thor. Even though we see Jane Foster’s Thor on the cover of Thor #1, she only appears on the last page as a cameo (her second after Thor: God of Thunder #25). His first full appearance is in this second issue. We tracked a high sale of $215 for a CGC 9.8, with unrated copies at a current FMV of $43.

#2: WHAT IF? #ten | WONDER | 1978 | It’s an interesting entry in the long line of Jane Foster sales. While some may argue that this book is the first appearance of Jane Foster’s Thor, many disagree. Much like the EXILES #3 and CAPTAIN CARTER #1 debate, WHAT IF? #10 launches a different version of Jane Foster’s Thor. The character in question is called Thordis. Thirty-five years later, Jane would take over Mjolnir and become Thor in the mainstream Marvel Universe, in THOR #1. One thing is certain, finding that book on THOR #1 is a much tougher hunt. CGC currently has 155 copies of this book at 9.8, compared to 2,703 copies for THOR #1 (CGC 9.8). For it to land in this week’s Top 10, we tracked a high sale of $2,000 for a CGC 9.8, with unranked copies at a current FMV of $107.

#1: Thor #1 | WONDER | 2014 | To answer the real question of the week, which Jane Foster Thor comic is the problem? According to market trends, the first cover appearance of the mighty Thor is the book to grab! The FMV for a raw copy of this book currently costs $113. Whether Jane Foster’s Thor is here to stay or just a one-off character in THOR LOVE AND THUNDER, it’s safe to say this book begins his ascent. As we see more images and previews of the film, we’re bound to see THOR #1 make a regular appearance in the top ten. We tracked a high sale of $395 for a CGC 9.8, with unrated copies at a current FMV of $113.
