New comic book store opens in Spa City – Saratogian
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Spa Town has a new local comic book store with the recent opening of Cosmic Capes Comics.
Comics, crafts, board games, and collectibles are now all available at Cosmic Capes Comics, which opened last week.
The new business is located in Suite 101 at 9 Hampstead Pl., In The Springs apartment complex off Weibel Avenue in Saratoga Springs.
The store is owned and operated by longtime comic book lover Michael Miller. Earlier this year, Miller seized the opportunity to change careers and pursue a new entrepreneurial adventure that he is truly passionate about.
“I love working with this stuff,” he said of the many comics that line store shelves.
After building up a large inventory with a wide variety of DC, Marvel, and indie comics, Miller opened Cosmic Capes Comics in late September.
So far, since starting the business, “the community has been very friendly, very welcoming,” he said.
Looking ahead, Miller has a lot of ideas in mind for the store’s future. “This is just the start,” Miller said. The store’s collection of recently released comics, back issues, categorized comics, and alternate covers are all set to grow.
The plans include expanding the offering of board games, role-playing games, collectible card games, artwork and pop culture collectibles.
Miller is also planning events such as artist and author tours, book signings, cosplay parties, and space game tournaments. A grand opening celebration will also be announced in the coming weeks.
“I mean it’s a little more than just a store,” he said, noting the store’s attractive features such as a free multi-game arcade machine and a coloring station for kids. children. “I mean it’s to be more part of the community.”
Additionally, Miller intends to take Cosmic Capes Comics beyond the walls of the Saratoga Springs store by attending comic book conventions.
As Cosmic Capes Comics begins to expand, Miller aims for clients to help guide its expansion. He is always eager to hear feedback from visitors on what they want to see in the store. “At the end of the day, I want to go where people want me to go,” he said, “where the local community wants me to go.
Cosmic Capes Comics is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
