The 10 best comics that have risen in value over the past week include World War Hulk, Star Wars and more

New and old dominate the list this week (more new than old) with a healthy dose of titles from the pen of Charles Soule. She-Hulk’s release on Disney+ got fans’ brains pounding, with other green-skinned beings making an appearance as well. A clone of Spidey appears with the legendary Frank Miller ushering in a new era we call “Miller-Time” (maybe not since he’s taken.). And Star Wars, so Star Wars. The mega-franchise is presented more than once, but where? Just read on to find out for yourself this week’s Top Ten!

COVRPRICE.COM uses live sales analytics to identify and compile the market’s most robust price guide, highlighting the hottest trending comics each week. No opinion. Just data. Each week they feature a newly updated list of TOP 10 COMICS. These trends are driven by rumors, fan-favorite covers, story-based content, and content-related news.
#ten: MEET THE SKULLS #1 | WONDER | 2019 | The solicitation for Secret Invasion fell on Disney+ to go with a spring 2023 release date. It specifically mentions a group that’s been undercover for years. While that may mean many Skrulls, many fans’ attention has turned to this book. It features the first appearance of The Warners, a Skrull family fully integrated into society (with a father who works at Shield), and G’iah. There is precedent for a semi-crossover as G’iah has dressed up as Pepper Potts before. Some sites speculate that this is the secret role of actress Emilia Clarke (instead of the other supposed roles of Veranke the Skrull Queen and SWORD director Abigail Brand). We trailed it at a high sell of $170 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $19.
#9: STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN #2 – JIM CHEUNG (1:50) | WONDER | 2022 | With this issue featuring Grogu’s first full appearance in the comics, it’s fitting that Mando and “baby Yoda” feature on many of the covers. This Jim Cheung 1:50, however, captures that grime that pervades the world that Mando occupies. A world where Grogu must navigate at the hip of his tutor. Fans of the character(s) and the series were given a treat with the high ratio variant of the release. We tracked it to a high sale of $125 for a raw copy with a current FMV of $78.
#8: WHAT IF? PLANET HULK NUMBER 1 | WONDER | 2007 | In addition to having excellent coverage, the Hulk’s son, Skaar, makes his first appearance in this issue. This book first peaked last year in June when a 9.8 sold for $799.95. Although it never dropped significantly, the price stabilized but started to climb again thanks to some of the minor glimpses/events that occurred in the first episode of She-Hulk. We tracked it to a high sell of $600 for a CGC 9.8 with a gross FMV of $63.
#seven: AVENGERS #85 | WONDER | 1971 | Loki’s first season was a smash hit and fans are thrilled with the second outing. Well, they just got more excited about recent rumors that Henry Cavil is in talks with Marvel to play Hyperion, Marvel’s Superman, and a member of Squadron Supreme who first appeared in this book. The secondary market saw a surge as fans sought to acquire a book featuring a team with some of the qualities of “The Boys”. We tracked it to a high sell of $800 for a CGC 9.2 and a gross FMV of $103.
#6: EIGHT BILLION GENIUS #1 | PICTURE | 2022 | For the eight billionth time, it’s Eight billion geniuses! But seriously, this book has been in tears ever since Amazon picked it up. This book’s author, Charles Soule, has been alone with the recent heat behind his new Daredevil series and this week’s aftermarket darling of Star Wars #26. Fans continue to pick up the first issue of this series as every next version keeps collectors engaged and eager to return to the main cover of #1 that started it all. We tracked it to a high sale of $66 for an NM+ raw copy and a raw FMV of $43.
#5: SPIDER-MAN WEB #118 | WONDER | 1994 | A leaked image from Hasbro’s Trouble game, themed around characters and images from the upcoming Spider-Verse movie, featured a startling image of Scarlet Spider, aka Ben Reilly himself. With this leak, Scarlet’s first appearance in this issue flew off aftermarket shelves. Of course, the movies’ screen time and emphasis on the many spider characters will vary, but Ben has a recognizable look and a notorious storyline. We trailed it at a high sell of $965 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $100. Rightly so, given how fresh the character is and where she comes from.
#4: STAR WARS #26 – CHRIS SPROUSE – CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY | WONDER | 2022 | Not only is it the second Star Wars title on this list, it’s also the second series written by Charles Soule. Star Wars continues to be incredibly popular, especially in comic book form, with many first appearances. With up to seven first appearances (including but not limited to Ambassador Givens, Major Sharin, General Palton, and Qi’ra’s nephew and niece: Jon and Beverly), fans of the series jumped on this Chris Sprouse cover with fan-favorite Jedi, Plo Koon. We tracked it to a high sale of $20 for a raw copy and a FMV of $16.
#3: STAR WARS #26 – JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER – OPERATED FIGURE VARIANT | WONDER | 2022 | Two spots in a row!? Like we said, this book is hot! This cover is also in the style of the famous action figure variant that the Star Wars comics popularized in 2015. But, this one features a young Obi-Wan, a great companion to the book featuring the old Ben Kenobi from 2015. We called at a high sale of $18.
#2: FRANK MILLER PRESENTS ASHCAN (LIMITED TO 12,000) | 2022 | What a way to celebrate the first release under your new brand! Frank Miller launched Frank Miller Presents alongside this book. Frank Miller made a huge gesture to the community and sent this limited 12,000-copy issue to the LCS for free with a suggested retail price of $1. Not only that, but it also features a sequel to his famous work, Ronin. Fans are eager to acquire something so remarkable, and the secondary market reacts accordingly. We tracked it to a high sale of $50 for a raw copy with the current FMV at $19.
#1: STAR WARS #26 – EM GIST | WONDER | 2022 | Holding the Top Spot is the final cover of this release, aside from the 2nd print, which is this cover with a black background. Em Gist nails young Luke and Leia, the strength and rebellious spirit are strongly present. The Star Wars heat swept through collectors’ streams this week, prompting them to pick up this new release with several first appearances that could be a major key in this new arc. We tracked it to a high sale of $30 for a raw copy.
