welcome to COVRPRICETOP 10 for the week of DECEMBER 22, 2021. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Marvel (especially the MCU) has a significant grip on aftermarket trending books. Last week of this week is no different. The effects of the SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE teaser add to its 3-week trend of 2 spots on the list with two MORE spots. One is reserved for Spider-Punk (which is great by the way). The other, a promotional newspaper from Sony Pictures (of all things). The trailer for DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS landed three spots on the list. One for America Chavez, one for the first “Evil” Doctor Strange, and the last for Sleepwalker (which Hasbro posted some interesting footage of its toy inclusion for that specific MCU movie.) This week’s only non-Marvel title goes to one of Bad Idea’s last headlines, ODINN’S EYE, which caught fire in the secondary market. Finally, Bishop from the X-Men appears randomly on the list. The market is just impatient to hear about mutants. ALL MCU Mutant news. In the meantime, find out which books were trending this week and why. Several are books you should pick up now (* Cough * Spider-Punk, * Cough * Marvel Now! Point One).
#ten VENGEANCE # 1 | WONDER | 2011 The first trailer for DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS appeared in the post-credits of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME. In the trailer, we see a quick shot of America Chavez’s back. That 2-second benchmark helped ignite further the fire around its key issues, including its first appearance in this issue with a high sale of $ 1,700 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $ 250 gross.
# 9 INCREDIBLE SPIDER-MAN # 10 | WONDER | 2014 With the release of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME, the next Spidey-based film to look forward to is SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE. Since the release of the first movie, Spider-based books have not only skyrocketed, but also retained value (especially for Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker aka SP // DR, Spider-Gwen, etc.) . There are a huge number of alternate Spider-Men / Women to speculate on, with one leading Spider-Punk (Hobart “Hobie” Brown). His first appearance in this issue has grown organically over the past few years as he has grown into a popular cosplay character. However, after the new trailer, both Spider-Man India and Spider-man 2099 saw their prices increase dramatically. This forced collectors to buy these other characters as soon as possible. Speculators believe Spider-Punk, who first appeared in this issue, will appear in the next movie. Most notably, Punk hit a high sale of $ 228 for a CGC 9.8 with a gross FMV of $ 50.
# 8 ODINN’S EYE # 1 | BAD IDEA | 2021 One of the last five issues of Bad Idea, this new title has proven difficult to find in stores. This was typical for all of their titles, forcing collectors to turn to online sales, earning it a gross FMV of $ 60.
#seven WONDER NOW! POINT ONE # 1 | WONDER | 2012 The fallout from the recent America Chavez heat extends to this issue, which features America Chavez’s first appearance on a cover (which is very small on one of the playing cards). What’s more noteworthy is inside the issue, where it features America Chavez’s first appearance in the Marvel Universe 616. Here, she appears younger in her Revenge # 1 appearance and showcases her look and feel. her costume more modern than we have come to know her. This long undervalued issue recorded a high sale of $ 299 for a CGC 9.8 and a current FMV of $ 18 gross.
# 6 SLEEP # 1 | WONDER | 1991 As previously reported, insider Daniel Richtman recently reported that a project centered around Marvel’s Sleepwalker is in development (to some extent) at Marvel. However, the recent reveal of the Hasbro Marvel Legends Series “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” line of action figures included Sleepwalker. Most of the line features characters appearing in the film. With the inclusion of Sleepwalkers is D’Spayre (who first appeared in Marvel Team-Up Vol.1 # 68) and Rintrah (who first appeared via a cameo in Doctor Strange (Vol. 2) # 80). These toy appearances augmented their early comedic appearances. With Sleepwalker speculation already, this toy reveal gave its first appearance the extra boost it needed and sold double the number of copies it made last week with a high sale of $ 285. for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $ 28.
# 5 INCREDIBLE SPIDER-MAN # 365 | WONDER | 1992 Returning to the roster this week (again) is that first official appearance of SPIDER-MAN 2099 # 1. This former is still going strong and recorded a high sale of $ 446 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $ 33.
# 4 SPIDER-MAN 2099 # 1 | WONDER | 1992 This ongoing first Spider-Man 2099 series also returns to the list as it continues its upward trajectory with a high sale of $ 298 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $ 25.
# 3 THE DAILY BUGLE: SPECIAL EDITION NEWSPAPER (LTD. 3000) | SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT | 2021 This week’s entry # 3 isn’t a comic, but falls into the gray area of being adjacent to the comic. Sony Pictures produced this Limited Edition Daily Bugle newspaper to promote and coincide with “Spider-Man movie: No Way Home”. Limited to 3,000 copies and distributed through a New York City pop-up newsstand, those lucky enough to purchase one were happy to see it become a major aftermarket hit with a current FMV of $ 127.
# 2 X-MEN # 282 GOLD – 2ND PRINTING | WONDER | 1991 With Phase 4 of the MCU underway, the big question for fans is when and where the X-Men and Mutants will first appear. Key X-Men characters have been purchased a lot by collectors over the past year or so. However, some characters appear to be drawn into the wave of speculation. For example, many speculators believed Omega Red would be the first mutant to appear in the MCU via BOTTLE AND THE WINTER SOLDIER. Then there was the speculation that Magneto might appear in WANDAVISION. While none of these have happened, recent time travel links have led speculators to Bishop and his first appearance in Uncanny X-Men # 282. How, when and where is unclear. Still, collectors specifically focused on this 2nd gold draw last week and pushed it to a high sale of $ 400 for a CGC 9.8 and current FMV of $ 48.
# 1 WHAT IF? # 18 | WONDER | 1979 As seen in the trailer for DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERS OF MADNESS, a weird more sinister appears, with a voiceover stating, “I hope you understand. The greatest threat to our universe is and you.” Although this problem is not the same character, it is the closest thing. This issue features “What if Doctor Strange was a Disciple of Dormammu” and had a high sale of $ 140 for a CGC 9.6 with a gross FMV of $ 43.
