Top 10 comics that have risen in value over the past week include Superior Iron Man, Iron Fist and more

Want to know which comics are trending each week and why? COVRPRICE.COM uses live sales analytics to identify and compile the market’s most robust price guide, highlighting the hottest trending comics each week. No opinion. Just data. Each week they feature a newly updated list of TOP 10 COMICS. These trends are driven by rumors, fan-favorite covers, story-based content, and content-related news.
Egad! Tosin fell out of the Top 10 and into the second list! No worries, he’s still fine. This week’s pull focuses on the Marvel Illuminati in DOCTOR STRANGE: MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. The cabal of Marvel’s most notable leaders takes up two spots, with the Wonder Twins also being paired up as two places. 50 Cent’s news about his production company developing DC’s obscure XERO is an interesting addition. Superior Iron Man takes the top spot after being the early favorite as the “bright and fuzzy character” in the trailer for DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. Rounding out the list are The New Iron Fist, the Queen Goblin, and SOMETHING IN KILLING THE CHILDREN #21 Ashcan (it’s always nice to see a non-DC/Marvel book make an appearance in the Top 10).
#ten. NEW AVENGERS: ILLUMINATI #1 2ND PRINT | WONDER | 2006 | The recent trailer for DOCTOR STRANGE: MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS made big waves in the secondary market and spurred further speculation. The prevailing rumor is that the Marvel Illuminati will appear in the film. Many clues allude to it, including symbols, the five chairs (and an empty seat), as well as the clear voiceover of Patrick Stewart. The first draw of this one-shot landed in the Top 10 last week, with this 2nd draw now following with a gross FMV of $39.
#9. INCREDIBLE SPIDER-MAN #88 | WONDER | 2022 | In today’s world of comic book collecting, ANY first Marvel appearance is instantly hot, and this particular issue features the first appearance of The Queen Goblin. Its first appearance is trending with a high sale of $185 for a CGC 9.8 and a gross FMV of $13.
#8. WONDERFUL BINOCULARS #1 | CC | 2019 | Variety recently reported that “DC’s ‘Wonder Twins’ movie for HBO Max will be written and directed by ‘Black Adam’s’ Adam Sztykiel.” It helped their first appearance in SUPER FRIENDS #7 DC (1977) achieved new high sales. However, the most accessible and modern iteration of the characters can be found in this 2019 series. It’s trending this week at a gross FMV of $19.
#7. NEW AVENGERS: ILLUMINATI #1 | WONDER | 2006 | This Illuminati one-shot returns to the list after immediately trending last week with a gross FMV of $36.
#6. IRON FIST #1 | WONDER | 2022 | Lin Lie, formerly Sword Master, is officially the new Iron Fist. After all the speculation surrounding her brother, we can now move forward with Lin in her new role. This problem is trending with a raw JVM of $15.
#5. EXTREME JUSTICE #9 | CC | 1995 | This obscure 1995 issue features the first DCU continuity appearance of the Wonder Twins, Zan & Jayna. This book might still get continued traction with the moving WONDER TWINS movie for HBO. This week we tracked it at a gross FMV of $31.
#4. SOMETHING KILLS CHILDREN #21 ASHCAN | BOOM! | 2022 | This store-exclusive one features a simple logo on a black background. There is a growing collector base for “logo covers”, which are not as common as you might think and can have significant long-term value. The condition will also play an important role in this ashtray. We tracked it at a FMV of $146 gross.
#3. NEW AVENGERS #7 | WONDER | 2005 | As noted, the live appearance of the Illuminati seems to be very likely in DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. Their first appearance (along with Reed Richards, Namor, Stephen Strange, Charles Xavier, Black Bolt and Tony Stark) is in this issue and was instantly on fire after the Super Bowl. Covrprice followed a high sale of $700 for a CGC 9.8 and raw copies at a FMV of $120.
#2. XERO #1 | CC | 1997 | By deadline, “Curtis” 50 Cent “Jackson’s G-Unit is developing a live-action film based on comic books (Xero) by Christopher Priest.” This news ignited a massive fire under this long-forgotten comic, pulled from the depths of back-issue bins to reach a high sale of $180 for an NM raw copy!! However, gross FMV has since stabilized at $81.
#1. SUPERIOR IRON MAN #1 | WONDER | 2014 | This issue features the first appearance of “Superior Iron Man” and his Endo Sym Armor. After the DOCTOR STRANGE: MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS trailer, the initial surge of interest focused on The Illuminati. Fan speculation then quickly turned to the mysterious glowing figure seen battling Scarlet Witch at 1:35 in the latest trailer for DOCTOR STRANGE: MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS. Immediate speculation over the identity of the character went to Tom Cruise as Superior Iron Man, a variant of our MCU Tony Stark. This has been much debated and even debunked after high resolution photos were captured and shared online. Current theories around this identity are a variant young Kang as Iron Lad, Maria Rambeau as a variant Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau as Spectrum, or possibly even Nova Corps member Eve Bakain. The good news is that we don’t have to wait TOO long with its release on May 6th. However, a few months in the land of speculation can seem like an eternity. Regardless, there are still plenty of fans in the Superior Iron Man camp, whose first issue is now trending at a gross FMV of $45 due to this guesswork.
